Why did you choose to join Amplify Trading's programme?
I decided to join Amplify Trading’s program because I’m interested in Sales & Trading, I figured out that Amplify Trading will be great for my CV and it also allowed me to experience a bit of what the trading floor is like. I was interested in the fact that my instructor is Xiao and he has the experience in Morgan Stanley.

What is the biggest highlight of the course for you?
Definitely the simulations. After having learnt some theory about one of the many divisions in banking, the opportunity to test how well you understood the theory really helps differentiate between what you like and what you don’t, and more importantly what you can see yourself doing as a career. The added benefit is that you’re competing against your fellow peers in the group, and so you can visualise how conversations between hedge funds and investment banks for example occur in real life, such as quoting trades. The simulations provided the perfect avenue to experience what different sectors in the industry are like for those who haven’t studied a finance type degree/course.

We understand you have just completed an internship from BAML, can you tell me more about what you do?
Yes, I just completed an internship at Bank of America and I did get a full-time offer from the Sales and Trading role. I had 6 weeks of internship, which 3 weeks for training and 2 weeks for the actual project making, and 1 week for the final presentation.

In my project, I rotated with the G10 FX trading and the Securities Lending division. In G10 FX trading I had to use Excel as well as VBA to create a tool in which the user can look out at the information of the implied correlation, as well as the realized correlation of any two FX currency pairs. I would recommend anyone interested in the role to learn VBA and Python.

In securities lending, I get to know all the different laws for lending securities in various markets in Asia.

And finally, I presented to a panel and an audience of hundreds of people, which comprises of senior leaders, etc. And that is during my virtual internship.

How did the Amplify Trading experience help in your career development & landing your current role?
With regards to the interview, my experience with Amplify Trading allowed me to show to the interviewer that I was interested in S&T and not other divisions, such as IBD.

Furthermore, it also allowed me to understand more about the structure of the financial industry - market makers, asset managers, public market and private market.

How likely are you to recommend the course to a friend?
I would highly recommend the course as it has helped me to further my knowledge about the industry and the interview process. I genuinely liked the instructor Xiao, as he was incredibly passionate about teaching students.

What was the biggest highlight of the course for you?
My biggest highlight was the trading simulation platform, where students learned about the sell-side and the buy-side. The second highlight was when Xiao helped us with interview tips and presentation skills. The course was very professional and exciting. I would recommend anyone to participate.
