AmplifyME APAC's top 5 moments of last year

Introduction

Established in 2009 under the name Amplify Trading, the organisation had its roots firmly planted in the city of London. However, the year 2017 ushered in a transformative chapter. It was during this time that Xiaoyu Zhang, a former Equity Derivatives Trader at Morgan Stanley turned Educator, crossed paths with CEO and Co-Founder Will de Lucy.

This meeting set in motion AmplifyME's strategic plan to expand into the APAC region, marking a notable evolution in its trajectory.  With Xiaoyu at the helm, the Shanghai office was born, becoming the epicentre of AmplifyME’s dynamic growth in the East.

What began as a daring endeavour soon flourished into an unstoppable force, with a tight-knit team of six igniting innovation across more than 50 esteemed financial institutions, universities, and high schools.

In honour of the Chinese New Year, we join Xiaoyu in revisiting five inspiring moments of 2023 that have coloured our journey:

1. Ignighting the room in Hong Kong

Like many others, Covid-19 forced us to pivot swiftly to virtual events, but nothing compares to the electrifying energy of our simulations delivered face-to-face.

In March, we broke ground at the prestigious University of Hong Kong, delivering our flagship Asset Management and Sales and Trade simulations with a fervour that lit up the room for the first time in three long years.

It was fantastic to return to campus at long last and see first-hand how our practical, simulation experiences brought theory to life for both undergraduate and postgraduate students at such a prestigious university. Being able to have such an impact on shaping students' career paths is an honour.

2. Quantitative fireworks with Citadel

In July, a watershed moment awaited as Citadel beckoned us to Hong Kong and Sydney to deliver our groundbreaking quantitative finance simulations to their interns as part of their renowned training programmes. This collaboration would go on to redefine training programs across continents.

3. Illuminating Minds at Dulwich College, Singapore

In November, we reached a significant milestone by demystifying Asset Management to enthusiastic minds at Dulwich College, Singapore. By guiding high school students through the complexities of personal finance, we ignited sparks of curiosity and assisted them in planning their future university subject selections.

4. Reunion in Shanghai

October brought joyous reunions as our CEO, Will de Lucy, graced the Shanghai office after a three-year separation. Covid may have kept us apart, but his visit was a testament to the remarkable progress forged amidst challenges.

5. Celebrating Kevin, AmplifyME's vanguard

In August, we honoured Kevin Gu. As our first employee and steadfast Project Manager, Kevin has been the anchor of our journey. Five years strong, we celebrated his unwavering dedication with a personalized medal, a symbol of our enduring unity.

Inviting your candidates to your departmental or Employee Resource Group (ERG) virtual events and activities is a great way to make them feel connected, meet their fellow interns and have some fun, giving them more reason to stay with your institution. ERG’s are voluntary, employee-led groups which aim to foster a diverse, inclusive workplace aligned with your organisation.

They're usually led and participated in by employees who share a characteristic, whether it's gender, ethnicity, religious affiliation, lifestyle, or interest.
